Streetfeschival

Hey Kids, the last couple of weeks have been a wild ride here in Kaiserslautern. We have been pulling together here to put on a street festival with five other churches. Last Sunday was the the big day. If you don't recall it was the 20th of July. Also a speical day around here because it's Anika's birthday. She turned 8 and wanted to make sure we didn't sleep in too long and forget. So we started the day with breakfast at 7:00 and I had to be at the traffic circle where the party would take place at 8:00. We set up countless tables and benches, put up pavillions, set up everything you might need for a street party and we started with a corporate worhsip service at 11:00. My neighbor preached on the foolishness of the cross to the unbeliever and the wisdom of men being lower than the foolishness of God. Afterward we had a lot to choose from for lunch. Then people came out of the woodwork and we had lots of games and activities organized for the kids. As the kids played and the elderly ate their dessert cake, their was a lineup of musicians all afternoon long and into the evening. It was a place to meet friends, chill, hear some talented musicians, let the kids play and just enjoy the atmosphere. It was busy, but good. When the final act came to a close we had to pack up everything we set up that morning. garbage needed to be picked up, tables carried back home, pennies counted and last things taken care of. I got home a little after 10:30, rinsed the day's filth off, fell into bed and whispered a final prayer, " Thank you." The day was a success and it was so cool to see the churches working as a unit to throw one gigantic party. We must have seen well over a thousand people go in and out, buying a bratwurst, checking the music out and then eventually heading home. If you want a taste of our day check out this YoutTube video a friend of mine put together last Monday. He did a great job. Feschd am Ring 2014 You probably don't speak much German but you can get the idea of what our day was like. Oh, and Anika was thrilled about "her party."
